Welcome to Our Classroom
Boozhoo! Welcome to Grade 5/6!
Welcome to our classroom! Our teaching team includes Mr. Ankush Thakur and Ms. Fiona van Wissen, and together we work to create a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment for all students. Our focus is on building strong routines, confidence, and foundational skills in reading, writing, and mathematics.
We value learning that is connected to the land, community, and students’ lived experiences. Through observation, discussion, and hands-on activities, students are encouraged to develop respect for the land, nature, and the environment around them.
We value collaboration with families and look forward to working together to support each student’s growth throughout the school year.
How Families Can Support Learning
Ask your child to explain one thing they learned each day and how they learned it (for example, by reading, writing, drawing, or solving a problem).
Encourage short, regular reading at home (10–15 minutes). Reading together or listening to your child read is just as valuable as independent reading.
Encourage independent problem-solving - Encourage your child to try learning tasks independently first before asking for help to build confidence and problem-solving skills.
Practice math in everyday situations such as counting items, measuring while cooking, telling time, or discussing numbers seen in daily life.
Ensure adequate sleep each night, as rest has a strong impact on focus, behaviour, and learning during the school day.
Support consistent routines for sleep, attendance, and arriving at school on time to help your child feel prepared and ready to learn.
Stay connected - Please inform the school if there are changes at home or concerns that may affect your child’s learning or well-being.
