Matawa Education
Matawa First Nations Management is a tribal council representing nine Ojibwe and Cree First Nations in Northern Ontario, including Marten Falls First Nation. The Matawa Education Department is dedicated to supporting schools across Matawa communities through advisory services, educational programs, and resources that promote culturally relevant education.
Matawa Education provides Henry Coaster Memorial School with comprehensive support including literacy and numeracy resources, mental health services, cultural education programming, and school success planning. This partnership ensures our students benefit from a network of Indigenous education expertise while maintaining strong connections to our community's values and traditions.

Anishinaabeg Animiikii Bimaadiziwin
Culture, Identity & Community Learning
Anishinaabeg Animiikii Bimaadiziwin supports Henry Coaster Memorial School through culturally grounded learning led by Orville Councillor and David Samard. Students participate in drumming, storytelling, and the foundations of traditional dance, while also learning through visits from guest hoop dancers, youth performers, and flute players. This partnership creates meaningful opportunities for students to connect with Anishinaabe culture, identity, and artistic expression through lived, hands-on experiences rooted in community knowledge.

Eos Learning
Literacy & Numeracy Partnerships
Eos Learning works with Henry Coaster Memorial School in service to student excellence. In this work, they leverage evidence-based programs that deliver personalized learning pathways for each and every student. Alongside the digital student experience, educators are provided with discrete, actionable data to guide human-centered, neurodivergent-inclusive instructional responses, including lesson plans and multimodal activities.
Key Services:
- JK–5 English Literacy: Lexia Core5 Reading supports literacy development in phonological awareness, phonics, structural analysis, vocabulary, comprehension, and automaticity/fluency.
- 6+ English Literacy: Lexia PowerUp Literacy for adolescent learners provides age-appropriate content for students developing proficiency in K–8 English literacy skills.
- K–5 Numeracy: Symphony Math for fluency and conceptual mathematics taught through multiple ways of knowing, including real-life problem solving.
- 6–9 Numeracy: School 21 delivers grade-level numeracy courses in parallel with remediation courses, with on-demand access to instructional videos, sample problems, and instant feedback.
- Professional Learning & Coaching: Customized workshops, subject area learning series, and collaborative meetings to support educators through data, instructional coaching, and strategic planning.
Connected North
Live Learning Beyond the Community
Connected North brings live, interactive learning experiences into the classroom through two-way video technology. This partnership connects students with Indigenous mentors, role models, and experts, giving them access to learning opportunities that may not be available locally. Sessions are engaging, culturally relevant, and designed to inspire curiosity, confidence, and a broader sense of possibility while supporting student well-being and engagement.

Barn Owl Music
Music Education & Performance
Barn Owl Music connects students at Henry Coaster Memorial School with quality music instruction through a blend of virtual lessons and in-person visits. Music teacher Felipe Pereira brings music to life at HCMS, engaging students through daily music lessons that build creativity, confidence, and artistic expression. Students receive one-on-one instruction in piano, ukulele, drums, and guitar, developing skills at their own pace while discovering the joy of making music.
Felipe visits the community 4-5 times throughout the school year, providing hands-on instruction and mentorship. Each visit culminates in a school-wide music concert where students are encouraged to perform individually on piano or guitar, or participate in group class performances, celebrating their musical growth with the community.
